Orthodontic Treatments

For all ages

Orthodontic Treatment for Children

Interceptive orthodontic treatment can help guide proper teeth eruption and jaw growth, allowing later orthodontic treatment to be faster, simplified, or even eliminated. An early orthodontic evaluation will give your child the best opportunity for a healthy, beautiful smile. Coming in for an orthodontic treatment evaluation does not result in starting orthodontic treatment for your child immediately – it just means we can start observing your child's growth and development. Dr. Cho will advise on the most efficient, optimal time to start personalized orthodontic treatments.

Orthodontic Treatment for Teens

Your child's teenage years are transformative and we're excited to be part of their evolution. We'll work with them to deliver glowing smiles and prepare them for a happy and healthy future. Our orthodontic treatment generally involves ‘invisible' treatments such as Invisalign Teen Aligners or white braces and more traditional braces that come in different materials and colors. We strive to deliver a comfortable treatment experience with gentle pressure and use the latest technology for optimal results. Orthodontic treatment straightens the teeth of the young so all your adult teeth stay healthy long-term.

Orthodontic Treatment for Adults

We see more and more adults seek support for orthodontic treatment concerns and we're here to help. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age (yay!) and even if you've previously had an orthodontic treatment that you did not complete. Whatever your situation, we're happy to perform a complimentary 3D-digital scan of your teeth and discuss ‘invisible' orthodontic treatment options.

Invisalign®

Modern technology has granted us a favorable alternative to braces. Invisalign is a series of removable, clear aligners made to ease the process of moving teeth. Invisalign performs the same task as braces, but its removable design saves you from many of the drawbacks that accompany traditional braces. There is no difficulty flossing, no limitations on food and drink, and they are virtually invisible. Invisalign aligners are created using a 3D scanner, which customizes a set of aligners according to your needs. Similar to any orthodontic treatment, it will still straighten upper teeth, upper front teeth, and crooked teeth.

Care for Invisalign

Wearing Aligners

Aligners need to be worn at least 20 to 22 hours a day. They can only move teeth if they are worn for long enough. When you are not wearing aligners, keep them in your case to decrease the chance of losing them.

Eating and Drinking

There are no food restrictions when it comes to wearing aligners. Aligners need to be taken out before you eat or drink any liquids other than water. This makes it easy to handle tooth decay and manage oral health.

Brushing and Flossing

For optimal oral health, we recommend that you continue brushing your teeth at least twice a day, in the morning and before bed, and flossing once a day. We also recommend that you brush your teeth after every meal before you put your aligners back. If it is not possible, rinse your teeth with water to remove traces of food particles and prevent dry saliva and plaque from building up.

Cleaning your Invisalign Aligners

Gently brush your aligners with a soft toothbrush using a clear regular or antibacterial soap every morning and before bed. As bacteria could build on your aligners while you sleep, it is important to clean your teeth and the aligners. The use of toothpaste and/or hard toothbrush can decrease the clarity of the aligners due to their abrasive nature. You can place your aligner in a bowl of water with Invisalign cleaning crystals or a denture cleaner once a week or so. Make sure you rinse the trays before placing them back in your mouth. While using this orthodontic treatment, the practice of oral health is extremely important.

Types of braces

Orthodontists have implemented braces for decades, confident in their durability and effectiveness. Over time, braces have evolved with modern-day technology to provide a variety of options for treatment. Braces now come in a variety of styles outside of the traditional metal braces. While they all serve the same purpose, various tweaks in the designs have improved certain qualities.

clear braces

Clear ceramic braces are affixed to the front of the teeth, the same as traditional braces. However, the material is less noticeable. Each clear bracket is created from a single crystal of pure-grown sapphire. The effectiveness of crooked teeth does not change by color or type. Once the treatment is over, you will still walk away with straight teeth.

incognito (lingual)

Who says that all braces need to be obvious? Lingual braces are a special design in which the braces are affixed to the back of the teeth. This means that they are virtually invisible to most onlookers. Incognito braces are specially customized to each patient, fitted to the curve of your teeth to provide maximum comfort. Lingual braces combine great aesthetics with great results.

gold braces

Our families love the aesthetics of our latest selection of gold champagne braces. They have the durability of stainless steel and the aesthetics of white gold. They complement your skin tone and allow a natural aesthetic look. If you love your gold jewelry, this may be the choice.

Care for braces

Brushing and Flossing

We recommend that you brush for two minutes, three times a day after meals and before bed. Flossing should be done once a day. We will show you how to brush and floss with braces and provide you with all the tools you need. If you are unable to brush after eating or drinking, then rinse with water to help remove traces of food particles. For basic orthodontic treatment, it is important to care for your braces because if not there is a risk of gum disease and tooth movement which could affect you for the rest of your life. Flossing should be done once a day. We will show you how to brush and floss with braces and provide you with all the tools you need. If you are unable to brush after eating or drinking, then rinse with water to help remove traces of food particles.

Eating and Drinking

We ask you to avoid certain foods to prevent broken brackets or wires for the duration of treatment. These are:
  • Hard foods e.g. nuts, hard candies, ice, hard pizza crust
  • Sticky foods e.g. caramel, toffee, gum
  • Chewy food e.g. bagels, licorice, taffy
  • Popcorn
In general, you can cut hard foods like whole apples or carrots into small pieces. Corn on the cob can be removed from the cob. We also encourage you to minimize sugary and starchy foods or drinks. These contain acids and/or sugars that dissolve tooth enamel and can lead to cavities.

Retainers

Congratulations! You have made it to the final stage of treatment. Retainers are a necessary step to ensure that you keep your smile. For the first 6-12 months after your treatment, you will need to wear your retainer full-time. Once that period has ended, retainers only need to be worn at night. Retainers must be worn daily, as prolonged absence will lead your teeth to revert to their former state. We have both removable and fixed retainers available at our office. If you have completed your orthodontic treatment with us, we will provide you with a complimentary set of retainers. Should your retainer become damaged or if you wish for an additional set, please contact our office for more information.

Making room for your new smile

An orthodontic expander is a tool used to gradually widen the upper jaw and palate. It is made of a small metal apparatus that is placed on the upper jaw, bonded to the inside of the teeth with dental cement. The apparatus is gradually tightened over a series of appointments until the jaw is in the correct position. This not only creates more room for the teeth to grow, but it can also reduce the length of time that braces must be worn.
